FORT SMITH - Dr. James Kohut, MD, has joined Sparks Clinic Neuroscience Center to provide much needed neurosurgical services to residents of the River Valley.

As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Kohut will provide treatment for patients suffering from neck, back, arm or sciatic nerve pain, as well as, traumatic injuries to the brain and spine. He also has an interest in Neurooncology and will be able to help patients suffering from cancer that has spread to the brain and spine. Dr. Kohut says his goal is to understand his patient's story, not just treat a scan.

Dr. Kohut earned his Medical Degree cum laude with a Distinction in Research from the University of Michigan. He most recently worked at Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group in Santa Cruz, Calif. While the training required to become a neurosurgeon takes many years, Dr. Kohut knew at a young age what he wanted to be.

Dr. Kohut's wife, Karen, is an obstetrician and their children, twins Oscar and Sydney, are in their first year of college. In his free time, Dr. Kohut enjoys visiting used book stores and hiking.
